Ben Cutting was an unknown name for many until he made his prominence felt in the 12th game of group matches against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Cutting got the taste of IPL in this edition and last night he was the hero of the innings as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs. When Cutting entered the crease last night for his innings at 16th over, SRH were on the verge of being plundered further until his knock of 38-ball 69. Cutting entered when Yuvraj Singh walked out of the crease. It was just Cutting joining along with Naman Ojha that lead to their win. Daniel Vettori spoke after the match and said,” Ben Cutting with his batting was probably decisive. If you look at the overall scheme of things, he took some crucial wickets too that put us on the back foot,” as mentioned on cricbuzz.com. RCB looked firm favorites to get their hands on the trophy when Chris Gayle gave a blistering start to the tournament in the early overs. Cutting was the man scalping off Gayle, when SRH desperately needed to break the opening partnership. Gayle’s dismissal was the talking point for SRH and that laid the foundation for tumbling of wickets in the innings. Vettori felt none of the batsman could stand up to the impetus provided by Gayle.
“I think in an IPL game, there are some critical moments and in any IPL team there are some very good players. The start we got off today allowed us the confidence to do that [go for the chase]. I think just when we required a couple of guys to kick on, we weren’t able to give that momentum that Chris and others had established for us. So I think SRH grabbed their opportunities and got wickets at crucial times, “Vettori opined, conceding that it was a night when his opposition emerged a better unit.
