David Warner admits Australian women cricket side set benchmark after regaining Ashes

David Warner has admitted that their women’s counterparts have set a benchmark after regaining the Ashes with a 20-run victory in a low scoring match against England in the 2nd Twenty20 International in Hove and thereby clinched the multi-format series with a game to spare. Warner, who is a part of the Australian side that surrendered the Urn in the worst possible way, congratulated Stars skipper Meg Lanning and head coach Matthew Mott and wants his side to replicate their stunning achievement. According to a report from Cricket Australia, Warner said: “It’s a fantastic achievement. Winning that over here, they’ve set the benchmark for our Australian men’s team. No.1 in all three forms of the game; they’ve been a consistent team for the last 10 years. They’ve definitely set the benchmark. Credit to Meg and their team and ‘Motty’ the coach. They’re setting a great example for Australian cricket and women’s cricket worldwide.”

The Australian men’s team will be present at Cardiff to cheer for the Southern Stars when they take on England in the final match of the Women’s Ashes before the former square off in the afternoon in their one-off T20I against hosts. While the Australians are World No. 1 in the One-Day Internationals, and second in the Tests and T20I, the side is still yet to win an ICC World T20 with the closest they had come was in 2010 in the final against England at Barbados under the captaincy of now retired Michael Clarke.
