How often do we see a batsman scoring more than the opposition team’s total in a One-Day International (ODI) match? Not very often. But Australian batsman David Warner did it once again in his career. During the third ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy against New Zealand, Warner scored a blistering 156 off 128 balls, including 13 fours and four sixes. His 156-run knock helped Australia score 264. Apart from Warner, no other batsman could even touch 40-run mark. James Faulkner was the only batsman besides Warner from the Australian side who played with the strike-rate of 100 and none of them from rest could touch the strike-rate of 70.

The destructive left-hander was run out on the last ball of the innings for 156 off 128 balls with 13 fours and four sixes. The knock follows Warner’s 119 off 115 balls against the Black Caps in Canberra on Tuesday. He was involved in useful partnerships of 62 runs with George Bailey and 105 with Travis Head, which helped Australia fight back from 11 for two and 73 for four. Warner’s knock surely put Australia in a commanding position once again. The Australians did an excellent job once again by bowling New Zealand for mere 147, which was 9 less than Warner’s total in the match. In a way, Warner beat New Zealand by 9 runs. This is the second time when Warner outscored the opposition with his score.

Previously, he did so against Afghanistan during the World Cup 2015, where he scored 178 and Afghanistan were bowled out for 142. The first cricketer to achieve this feat twice in his ODI career is Viv Richards. Well, the highest score by any batsman to outscore the opposition is 264 by Rohit Sharma. The below table will give the clear picture of batsmen outscoring opposition teams’ total (minimum 140 runs of opposition).
