Rising England limited overs cricketer David Willey made a stellar contribution for his side Northants Steelbacks in their knockout tie against Sussex Sharks in the Natwest T20 Blast. Not only did he take three crucial wickets and bowl reasonably economically, but also came back to wreck havoc with the bat. He inflicted pain and defeat on the Sussex Sharks with his match-defining 41-ball hundred before getting out one ball later by which time most damage was done.

Willey was phenomenal throughout the game. In his four overs he yielded just 27 runs and scalped Luke Wright, Chris Jordan and Will Beer. His effort with the ball restricted Sussex to 165 which was still a reasonably defendable score. Sussex would have wanted to start of economically so as to build the pressure on Northants.
However, opener Willey riding on his confidence from the superb bowling had other plans. He took the attack to the bowlers almost right from the start and refused to relent until he got to his century off 41 deliveries before getting out the next ball. By the time Willey was dismissed, the match was well with control of the Northants and they made no mess of it. Willey’s efforts included one particular over where he took the bowler for 34 runs! The judges did not have a hard time choosing the man of the match for this one.
