Ireland play Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka’s tour of England 2014 on May 6. This is the first One-Day International match of the Sri Lanka-Ireland series, which will be followed by a five-match ODI series against England. This match will be played in Castle Avenue, Dublin.Ireland were not at their best in the recently concluded 2014 ICC World T20, and they will be looking to pull one over the champions of the tournament, Sri Lanka.
For Ireland, openers William Porterfield and Paul Stirling have been in good form, while the O’Brien brothers — Kevin and Niall — are always dangerous. Ireland will be missing the services of their veteran lead bowler, Trent Johnston, who retired last year. Sri Lanka will be looking to get a good workout in conditions that they are not very used to. This is a young side led by Angelo Mathews that is touring the British Isles, and they will be looking to put in a good performance. Youngsters like Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Perera will be hoping to become permanent fixtures in the limited overs squad.
