Hello, good evening and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog post for the opening ceremony at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi, ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). The 10th season of IPL sees each venue of the tournament hosting a grand opening ceremony before the start of action. At Delhi, actress Parineeti Chopra and rapper Dilin Nair aka Raftaar will be performing on Saturday evening. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Delhi Daredevils (DD) vs Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) IPL 2017
IPL 2017 has witnessed several opening ceremonies across the various venues where IPL 10 matches are being played. It all began with Amy Jackson performing in Hyderabad and Riteish Deshmukh in Pune. Actor Tiger Shroff performed at Rajkot, followed by Disha Patani and Harshdeep Kaur in Indore. Kirti Sanon and Benny Dayal performed at Bengaluru. The BCCI has tried to imbibe local culture as the themes of the opening ceremonies. The ceremony at Delhi on Saturday evening will also feature the popular Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in the 20-minute show.
The idea to have as many as eight opening ceremonies may have been criticised by many, but it does provide the opportunity to those who go for the opening games to watch it all fold in front of them. In the IPL opening ceremonies of previous editions, several international stars including Katy Perry have also performed. This year, ahead of the tournament opener, former Indian cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag were honoured.
