Virender Sehwag-led Delhi Daredevils are favourites to win the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012, according to bookies. Delhi Daredevils are presently at the top of IPL 2012 points table with eight wins in 10 matches.
Several media reports have claimed that interest in the T20 tournament is fading, backed by reports that TRPs were falling, but bookies suggest betting has increased in this edition.
“Interest has grown this year. Betting has increased by as much as 20% over last year. With no other major cricketing tournament conflicting with its schedule, IPL 5 is seeing a boom in betting,” a bookie said.
Bookies told Dainik Bhaskar that Kolkata Knight Riders are expected to make it to the finals along with Delhi Daredevils.
The other teams expected to make to the semis are Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.
The bookies gave Delhi odds of Rs 2.30, Kolkata Rs 3.80, Mumbai Rs 4.60, Bangalore Rs 5.75 and Chennai Rs 8.
Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, are expected to be knocked out in the league stage, the bookie claimed.
The Delhi-based bookie said the betting was ‘clean’ this year.
“This year all the bets are clean. We are not speaking to anybody in the teams. Matches are playing out, and the results are sometimes unexpected, which is generating more interest and bets. More bets eventually mean better business for us,” he said.
