Delhi Daredevils after being asked to bat first managed only 162 run in 20 overs in match No.33 in Indian Premier League 2016.  Rising Pune Supergiants were able to control the flow of runs as they got the dangerous Rishabh Pant early on in the innings. It was stand-in skipper JP Duminy, Sam Billings, Karun Nair and Carlos Brathwaite that were instrumental in DD’s batting outing. Duminy and Brathwiate provided some death over explosives that helped  DD finish their innings 162 for 7. To start Pant was cleaned by Ashok Dinda for just 2. It was Sanju Samson and Karun Nair who revived DD’s innings with a 35 run stand for the second wicket. Samson had a short stay in the middle, fell victim to Scott Boland trying a chip shot over mid-wicket. Samson made 17-ball 20. Nair soon departed falling to Rajat Bhatia. Bhatia bowled a slower ball which Nair misjudged and ended up giving Thisera Perera a simple catch moving to his right. Nair made a quick fire 23-ball 32. It was Duminy and Sam Billings rescued DD out of a hole. Both batsmen added 45 runs in 5 overs before Billings trying to switch hit the ball over long-on gave a catch to Ajinkya Rahane. Billings struck a 15-ball 24. Duminy continued his fluency with the bat. Brathwaite played a small but significant cameo of 20 runs from 8-ball which was halted by Boland. Next to go was Duminy himself in a bid to scamper for a single towards the striker end, where the stumps we uprooted by the combination of Rahane and Dhoni. It was only in the final over that Pawan Negi showed his expertise with the bat managing as many as 13 runs for his team to finish on 19 off 12 balls. It was Bhatia with the ball that bowled with immaculate line and length ending with figures  of 2 for 22 in 4 overs.

Earlier RPS skipper MS Dhoni winning the toss opted to field first on a batting friendly track at Kotla. Both teams had plenty of changes in their playing XI, Zaheer Khan, Quinton De Kock were rested as Pawan Negi, Carlos Brathwaite, Jayant Yadav and Imran Tahir came in. For RPS, it was time for both their new members Usman Khawaja and George Bailey coming into the side  are in for Steven Smith and Peter Handscomb.
