An action-packed match saw the Gujarat Lions (GL) come victorious as the home team Delhi Daredevils (DD) lost by 1 run in Match 23 of Indian Premier League (IPL) season nine at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The Lions continued their brilliant form as they bagged their fourth victory out of their five matches this season. The Gujarat team, batting first, put up a good 172 losing 6 wickets and put DD to chase. The openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum performed brilliantly as they brought up the 100 for the team within 9 overs. However, DD wrestled back in style as they sent McCullum, Smith and Suresh Raina in quick succession. While McCullum was castled with a peach of slower ball, Raina was hunted down with a well-directed bouncer by Morris. What looked like a one-sided game suddenly turned in DD’s favour. To make matters worse for GL, wily leg-spinner Imran Tahir dismissed dinesh Karthik and debutant Ishan Kishan in consecutive balls. Nonetheless, all-rounder James Faulkner gave finishing touches, as GL posted 172 runs on the scoreboard.
A remarkable performance came from the GL bowlers as well, as the top three of the DD team were out within the initial 4 overs of their chase. An innings that stood out of the chase was of Chris Morris who scored a 32 ball 82 with the help of 4 fours and 8 sixes. But the innings could not save the side from defeat as they lost by a solitary run. Here is the video highlights of DD vs GL, Match 23 at Delhi.
The Gujarat Lions will next face the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) at Pune while DD will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at their home.
