Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen completed 8,000 First-Class runs during the second day of the County Championship Division Two game against Leicestershire at Derby on Wednesday. Madsen, however, missed out on scoring his 20th FC century as he was dismissed for a score of 95 off 154 balls as Derbyshire reached a score of 281 for 7 at the end of the day’s play, trailing their opponents by 48 runs. Madsen had formed an 83-run third wicket stand with opener Ben Slater (70 off 164 balls), before a few dismissals towards the latter stages of the day pegged their progress. Ollie Freckingham, the bowler responsible for Madsen’s dismissal, was the highlight among the Leicestershire bowlers with figures of 3 for 64.

According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, Derbyshire No. 3 Chesney Hughes was dropped by opposition wicketkeeper Niall O’Brien on a score of 6, before getting bowled off a yorker by Freckingham. Slater and Madsen steadied the Derbyshire innings, before getting caught by Aadil Ali at cover off the bowling of Zak Chappell. Madsen went on to add 70 runs for the fourth wicket with Wes Durston, with the Derbyshire captain punishing Mark Cosgrove for three boundaries in one over during this period. The stand between the two came to an end when Ben Raine trapped Durston leg-before. A few more wickets tumbled thereafter, with Tom Milnes and Tom Taylor left at the crease without opening their accounts at the end of the day.
