Dhaka division crushed Barisal Division by a massive innings and 413 runs during their opening encounter of the ongoing National Cricket League, Bangladesh’s premier domestic first-class tournament, at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday. The margin of victory is the largest in first-class cricket in Bangladesh, beating West Indies‘ innings and 310-run win at Dhaka in 2002.
Barisal were bundled out for 139 in their first innings, with Mohammad Sharif leading the carnage with figures of six for 24. Fazle Mahmud and Al-Amin were the only batsmen to put up a fight whatsoever, scoring 52 and 30 respectively, with only two other batsmen scoring in double-digits in the innings.
The Dhaka batting reply was a terrific one, with as many as three centurions in the top-order. Rony Talukdar, who eventually earned the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his 227-run knock, put up a 197-run opening stand with Abdul Mazid (76). Raqibul Hasan and Taibur Rahman (106 not out) struck centuries as they guided Dhaka to a majestic 651 for five.
It was Shuvagata Hom‘s turn to record a six-wicket haul in Barisal’s second innings, conceding 22 runs from 9.4 overs in the process. The visitors failed reach 100 this time, falling a run short as the were dismissed in a matter of 29.4 overs.
