Dhammika Prasad has been ruled out of Sri Lanka‘s Test series against New Zealand. Sri Lanka is set to play New Zealand for a 2-match Test series starting from 10 December. Prasad while playing a tour game against New Zealand Board President’s XI in Queenstown suffered an back injury which resulted him in bowling only four overs  giving away 20 runs. Vishwa Fernando has been called into the squad as replacement for Prasad. Fernando who featured in Sri Lanka’s Test squads to the UAE and Bangladesh in 2014, was also picked in the squad for the home series against India in August earlier this year is yet make his Test debut. Fernando  was in New Zealand for Sri Lanka A unofficial Tests against the hosts in October, was the highest wicket-taker in the series with 5 wicket in 2 Tests only behind fellow country-mate and  legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay.  Fernando came into prominence after he picked 40 wickets in the nine Premier League tournament matches, Sri Lanka’s first-class competition. Meanwhile, Prasad’s injury comes as a very crucial blow to Sri Lanka’s chances of winning a Test, with him being their most lethal seamer in the last year and was expected to lead the attack in New Zealand. Prasad is most likely to play in the one-day internationals (ODI) series. Sri Lanka team are still keeping him around in the the squad. Prasad in his short Test career of 25 matches has picked 75 wickets with a best of five for 50 against England. Prasad has also show a bit of talent with the bat having a high score of 47.
