Johannesburg:  Sri Lankan fast bowler Dhammika Prasad, who has already been ruled out of the upcoming Test series, will now miss the ODI series against New Zealand as well after failing to fully recover from his back injury. The 32-year-old, Prasad while playing a tour game against New Zealand Board President’s XI in Queenstown suffered an back injury which resulted him in bowling only four overs  giving away 20 runs. Uncapped left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando, who has already replaced Prasad in the Test squad against New Zealand, will now replace the right-arm fast bowler in the ODI team as well, Sport24 reported. Earlier,  Dhammika Prasad has been ruled out of Sri Lanka‘s Test series against New Zealand. Sri Lanka is set to play New Zealand for a 2-match Test series starting from 10 December. Fernando, who is all set to play in the forthcoming series, had earlier featured in the Test squad to the UAE and Bangladesh in 2014, but did not get a team. The two sides will play the two-match Test series from December 10 followed by five-match ODI series from December 26 at Hagley Oval. Fernando was in New Zealand for Sri Lanka A unofficial Tests against the hosts in October, was the highest wicket-taker in the series with 5 wicket in 2 Tests only behind fellow country-mate and  legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay.  ALSO READ: Angelo Mathews aims series win in New Zealand

Fernando came into prominence after he picked 40 wickets in the nine Premier League tournament matches, Sri Lanka’s first-class competition. Meanwhile, Prasad’s injury comes as a very crucial blow to Sri Lanka’s chances of winning a Test, with him being their most lethal seamer in the last year and was expected to lead the attack in New Zealand.
