Sri Lanka skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan on Wednesday thanked South Africa Test captain Graeme Smith and his deputy AB de Villiers for ensuring the visitors get paid before the commencement of their three-match Test series starting December 15 at Centurion.

Smith and de Villiers made statements to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to assist the Sri Lankan cricketers, who have not received salaries since the end of ICC 2011 World Cup, IOL Sports reported.

Dilshan said, “Thanks to AB and Graeme who both gave statements. I thank them for being behind us to sort out these matters.”

“They (Sri Lanka’s cricket board) will sort it out next week, that’s the news I heard from the board,” he added.

The Sri Lankan captain promised that despite being unpaid since March 2011, his side’s performance won’t be affected.

“We are here to play cricket, everyone wants to play cricket and not worry about payment. We know payments are important but we’re just trying to play good cricket and finish this tour – that’s the main target as a team,” Dilshan said.
