A slow start followed by the loss of crucial wickets by the Mumbai Indians (MI) caused them to lose their second match of their Indian Premier league (IPL) campaign against Gujarat Titans (GT) by 36 runs.
The innings for Gujarat began well, and the team was even standing strong with 66 runs on board by the end of powerplay. However, that strong start did not last long as Shubman Gill soon got dismissed in the 9th over, and the team was at 92 runs by the time half the innings were complete. Jos Buttler then came in, and soon pushed the team past 100 runs as the team was at 101 after 11 overs.
GT were going at what seemed to be a slow pace in the second innings. The team then lost the wicket of Jos Buttler by the 14th over, followed by wicket of Shahrukh Khan in the 16th. It was also by that time only that Gujarat managed to cross 150-run mark. Then the next two overs came with some runs, but the end of 18th over saw the fall of Sai Sudarshan.
The 19th over saw back-to-back dismissal of Rahul Tewatia and Sherfane Rutherford, and Gujarat Titans posted a total of 196 runs on the board by the end of their 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians innings began on a shaky note, as Rohit Sharma got dismissed on the first over. The team then was looking to recover, but lost Ryan Rickelton by the 5th over. MI was at just 48 runs by the time powerplay came to an end. The slow performance followed as the team was at 86 runs by the time half the innings were complete.
The second phase of the innings also went normally for once, and the team was just short of reaching 100 runs by the 12th over. From that point, the match progressed with a decent pace and MI was at 118 after 15 overs. The match was looking to go out of Mumbai’s hands from that point.
Then Shubman Gill shockingly got dismissed by the end of 16th over as the match was making it’s way out of Mumbai’s hands. Coming to their shock, Hardik Pandya also got dismissed soon after Gill. Then by the final over, MI needed 46 to win, which was basically impossible. Eventually Gujarat Titans secured a victory by 36 runs
