On a green wicket at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, South Zone managed to bowl Central Zone out for 276 in the Duleep Trophy final. Central Zone came into Day Two at 237 for seven after a tough battle on Day One where they elected to bat first.

The conditions at Kotla have largely been hazy and the likes of Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun and HS Sharath used them well to keep the batsmen in check. Central Zone opened the batting with Jalaj Saxena and Faiz Fazal. The initial periods were quite scoreless and Saxena was dismissed early by Vinay Kumar.

The partnership between Fazal and Robin Bisht restored a bit of momentum and they were attacking on the spinners. Bisht in particular was quite dominant and played a very positive innings. However, Central Zone kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Baba Aparajith’s spin had helped create the breakthroughs when Fazal and Bisht were threatening to build the partnership.

The tail did wag a bit on Day Two, but they were then bowled out for 276.

Brief scores:

Central Zone 276 (Robin Bisht 79, Faiz Fazal 49; R Vinay Kumar 2 for 54, Baba Aparajith 2 for 26) vs South Zone.
