Rain and wet outfield compelled the umpires to abandon Day Three of Match No. 2 of the Duleep Trophy 2017 between India Red and India Blue after initial few overs, at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Hanuma Vihari and Deepak Hooda continued batting on Day Three to help India Blue take the first-innings lead but the pair could only add 16 runs before rain interrupted. Umpires waited two sessions in hope for the game to resume but primarily due to rain and later due to unplayable conditions caused by wet outfield compelled them to call the day off. India Blue now trail India Red by 151 runs. India Red have already won the opening encounter while this was the first outing for the Blues. Earlier in the match, Baba Indrajith’s timely 200, helped India Red counter a batting collapsed, ending their innings at 383. Even after a decent start of 70 for 1, India Red collapsed in front of India Blue’s skilful bowling. AnkitRajpoot ran through the India Red batting line-up, bagging a 3-for while Manoj Tiwary and JaydevUnadkat both bagged 2 wickets each. After being reduced to 205 for 9, India Red were revived by Indrajith, who batted along with a patient No.11 Vijay Gohil to take his team’s score to 383. The duo added 178 for the final wicket, which is a Duleep Trophy record for the tenth wicket.
Later, powered by skipper Suresh Raina’s 52 and HanumaVihari’s unbeaten 88, India Blue got to 232 for 3, despite losing SamitGohel and Tiwary cheaply. Vihari will continue batting with Hooda as play resumes on Day Four.
