An unbeaten 81-run partnership between Sudip Chatterjee (57*) and Baba Indrajith (32*) has enabled India Green to reach 116/2 in response to India Red‘s 337 at stumps on day two of their Duleep Trophy clash at Dindigul.
India Red and Vidarbha seamer Rajneesh Gurbani, who is enjoying a tremendous run of form since last year, clipped out the two openers of India Green – Priyank Panchal and Prashant Chopra -cheaply. After that Chatterjee and Indrajith stood firm and played in a determined way to lend solidity to their side. They negotiated the India Red attack led by Gurbani in a sensible fashion and accumulated runs well.
Chatterjee, who was resolute in defence, showed a rare moment of aggression when he hit a six. His partner, Indrajith, showed a lot of patience and his 82-ball knock included just three fours.
Earlier, resuming at the overnight score of 230 for 6, India Red added a further 107 runs to the total as Mihir Hirwani scored 61 off 111 balls which included six fours and two sixes.
Pacer Ankit Rajpoot bowled impressively and took 4/57 in the final analysis. Right-arm medium pacer Krishnamoorthy Vignesh also returned a decent haul of 3/80. Veteran seamer Ashok Dinda bowled accurately and pick the crucial wicket of Ashutosh Singh, who was the top-scorer for India Red with 80.
Brief Scores:
India Red: 337 all out in 132.5 overs (Ashutosh Singh 80, Mihir Hirwani 61, Ankit Rajpoot 4 for 57, K Vignesh 3 for 80).
India Green: 116 for 2 in 44 overs (Sudip Chatterjee 57 batting, Baba Indrajith 32 batting, Rajneesh Gurbani 2 for 43).
