Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post of the second day’s play in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2016-17, between India Red and India Green. This is the first time that the pink cricket ball is being used in a First-Class match in India, as the world’s richest cricket governing body is experimenting with the idea of day-night Test cricket in the country in future. The pink cricket ball did a lot of talking on the first day of the Duleep Trophy 2016-17 match, as India Red had the Green team tottering at 116 for 7 after they were folded up for 161.
The pink ball is was not the only attraction on the first day of the start of the Indian domestic season. The game marked the beginning of the use of a Kookaburra pink cricket ball in the country, and it all ended in an embarrassment after failure of the floodlights resulted in interruption of play for close to an hour.
There were as many as two interruptions due to bad light. Three of the six light towers at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in Noida in Uttar Pradesh went out, which forced the players to leave the field for about 17 minutes. The second interruption lasted for 5o minutes.
Talking cricket, Sandeep Sharma and Ankit Rajpoor claimed 3 wickets each and Jalaj Saxena took 2 to help India Red, captained by Suresh Raina, bundle out India Green for 161. In their reply, the India Green too began on a poor note. Nathu Singh and Kuldeep Yadav bagged 3 wickets each to leave Yuvraj Singh-led India Red tottering at 116 for 7.
