Hosts and new franchise Gujarat Lions (GL) fast bowler Dwayne Smith claimed four wickets for just eight runs in four over, thus allowing GL to restrict former champions and visitors Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a paltry total of 124 for the loss of eight wickets, in Match 51 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Thursday. Earlier, GL skipper Suresh Raina won the toss and elected to bowl first as he made three changes to his side, as he brings in himself, Shadab Jakati and Eklavya Dwivedi for Akshdeep Nath, Shivil Kaushik and Pravin Tambe, while KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir made just a change as the injured Andre Russell is replaced by Jason Holder. The KKR openers in the form of Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir were off to a slow start, as with just 23 runs added to the total, it was Gambhir, who was unfortunately run out for mere eight by Jakati in the fourth over. With just 11 runs added to the total, it was Manish Pandey, who fell for a mere single to Dwayne Smith, after being caught by Suresh Raina in the fifth over. As the score ticked 44, it was Uthappa, who fell for 25 to the same man, after being caught behind by Dinesh Karthik in the seventh over, followed by another 11-run stand before Piyush Chawla fell for mere 11 to Smith again in the 10th over. Just six runs later, it was all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who too fell for mere three to Smith again in the 12th over, as he claimed his fourth wicket of the match.
However, it was followed by a decent 41-run stand between Yusuf Pathan and Suryakumar Yadav, before Yadav fell for just 17 to Jakati, after being caught by Dhawal Kulkarni in the 17th over at the score of 102, followed by Yusuf Pathan, who fell for a healthy 36, following an 18-run stand with Jason Holder, to Dhawal Kulkarni after being caught by Raina again in the 19th over.
Just a couple of runs later, it was Holder, who departed for must 13 to Bravo, after being caught by Aaron Finch, while the pair of Sunil Narine and Morne Morkel added a couple more and allowed KKR to finish on a paltry total of 124 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
