New reports have emerged claiming that the England Cricket board (ECB) have denied the banning of Kevin Pietersen. Instead ECB have said that anyone who wants to play for England must perform at the top level and fit into the team, implicitly stating that Pietersen lacks discipline to co-ordinate with teammates, by virtue of which his re-selection is unlikely.

Paul Kelso, a reporter with Sky News, had a conversation with an ECB source who clarified their stance on Pietersen.

There was an outrage on social media by critics, fans and former players when reports emerged that Pietersen was told in a meeting with ECB director — Andrew Strauss —  and ECB manager — Tom Harrison — that he won’t be selected for England ever again.

Pietersen was called up for a meeting immediately after scoring an unbeaten 326 for Surrey against Leicestershire in the County Championship Division Two. There was a wave of optimism amongst Pietersen supporters when the reports of the meeting emerged as they anticipated good news but the proceedings would not have pleased them.
