Rookie Eddie Leie moved Highveld Lions within sight of victory Thursday against neighbours Northern Titans in a South African SuperSport Series match.
Playing only his second top-class match, the spinner finished day three with 5-27 off 12.2 overs to leave Titans battling at 163-8 in their second innings and a lead of just 110 runs with a day to go.
Leie also captured five first-innings wickets as Titans made 354 at Willowmoore Park in eastern Johannesburg suburb Benoni and centuries from skipper Alviro Petersen and Stephen Cook guided the Lions to 409 in reply.
Defending champions Western Cape Cobras are another team who can scent victory as they enter the final day needing 273 runs with 10 wickets remaining to defeat Eastern Cape Warriors at Boland Park in Paarl.
Warriors surrendered the initiative on day three as they were all out 211 second time round despite the bravery of skipper Colin Ingram, who was 92 not out after hitting a first-innings century.
Central Knights lead Coastal Dolphins by 210 runs with five wickets left after slipping to 110-5 in their second innings with only opener Reeza Hendricks (36) impressing. (AFP)
