India won the 4th T20I of the five-match series, and secured the series 3-1, but the fourth match ended up with a controversy regarding a ‘concussion substitute’. Indian team management sent Harshit Rana as the concussion substitute for Shivam Dube, which was approved by match referee Javagal Srinath.
This call got criticised by Jos Buttler along with many other former cricketers from both the sides, even including England’s Kevin Pietersen. Before the 5th T20I begins, Kevin wants Srinath to accept that he made the wrong call so that everyone can move on from the controversy.
“Concussion sub is quite the topic everywhere here atm and my view is…it was NEVER a like for like replacement and the match referee should just hold his hand up and say he got that one wrong. End of event for good and we move on to another great clash this evening,” Pietersen wrote on X.

When the 4th T20I match was underway, Kevin Pietersen had also criticised the call as he was sitting in the commentary box, where he called Harshit Rana to not be a like-to-like replacement for Shivam Dube.
