The third One-Day International (ODI) between England and Australia at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Wednesday was abandoned due to rain.
Rain stopped play with England at 59 for three at the end of 15.1 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to field first, Australia got off to a good start as opener Michael Carberry was dismissed in the first over of the match itself with the score on five.
A major confusion in the middle between Carberry and Kevin Pietersen leads to the former’s run-out.
Pietersen too didn’t last long as his scratchy innings came to an end in the sixth over of the match. The star batsman miscued a pull off Mitchell Johnson to George Bailey.
Jonathan Trott was the only batsman who offered resistence as the visitors made it tough for the English batsmen to get their innings going.
However, continous rainfall in the 16th over forced the umpires to abandon the match.
Australia now lead the series 1-0 after the first match of the series was also washed off due to rain.
Brief scores:
England 59 for 3 in 15.1 overs (Jonathan Trott 28*) vs Australia. Match abandoned due to rain.
