Monday, being a working day and the first of the week, is the most despised day of the week. However, in Bangladesh, and in other parts of the world where cricket is followed passionately, this Monday was awaited with keen anticipation. England, the pioneers of the game and one of the top teams in Test cricket, were involved in a close contest with the relatively tyros of the game, Bangladesh, in the first of the two-Test series. While the hosts needed 33 to win on the final day of the game, visitors needed just 2 wickets to spoil Bangla hopes.
As it turned out, England required just 21 balls on the final day to get out of the jail and win the first Test. All-rounder Ben Stokes got both the wickets on the final day on consecutive deliveries to inspire a famous win. For Bangladesh, debutant Sabbir Rahman played a lone hand and was left stranded in the end on 64. For his crucial 85 in the second innings and six wickets in the match, Stokes was rightly announced the Man-of-The-Match. The action will now shift to Mirpur, where the two teams clash in the second Test from October 28.
Meanwhile, as we said, all the eyes were trained on the final day of this cliff-hanger-of-a-game, where the question was who will blink first — England or Bangladesh. And as the moment came when England sealed it in their favour, Twitter witnessed an outpour of emotions. We bring to you some of those top tweets here:
Well played @englandcricket. Never in doubt Another fine example of why Test cricket is such a great format.
