ENGLAND pacer Steve Finn has announced his retirement from cricket with immediate effect. Finn was a member of the England cricket team from 2010-2017. He played his last game against South Africa in May 2017. The pacer took 125 wickets in 36 Tests at an average of 30. He took 102 wickets in ODIs and 27 wickets in T20Is.
Finn, the three-time Ashes winner, signed up with Sussex last year, ending a long association with Middlesex. The pacer played 19 games for the County team, accounting for 19 wickets before picking up a knee injury that kept him out of action in 2023 and eventually forced him to end his 18-year-long career.
“I have been fighting a battle with my body for the last 12 months and have admitted defeat to it,” said Finn.
“I retire with some amazing memories with England, Middlesex and Sussex, shared with fantastic people. Those will live with me forever.
“Cricket has given me a lot and I hope to give back to the game in some capacity in the future. But, for now, I’ll enjoy watching on without wondering whether my body will be able to make it through another day’s cricket,” he added.
