England beat New Zealand by 124 runs in the first Test at Lord’s. Chasing 345 for a win, New Zealand were bundled out for 220. Despite half-centuries from BJ Watling and Corey Anderson, New Zealand could not save the match. England pull-off a sensational win after being on the back foot for most part of the match. England picked up all 10 wickets to fall today to register an emphatic win. Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali too scored fifties in the first innings to ensure that England finished at 389. In reply, Kane Williamson scored a magnificent 132 and along with halfcenturies from Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and Watling ensured New Zealand took a 134-run lead and fold at 523. England then responded by scoring 478 in their second innings. Skipper Alastair Cook silenced his innings by scoring 162 and Stokes was again magnificent with the bat, scoring 101 of just 92 deliveries. Trent Boult managed to pick up a total of five wickets in the second innings and nine in the match overall. Stokes also became the fastest century-maker at Lord’s and second quickest century for England. New Zealand were staring down at the barrel but 107-run partnership between Watling and Anderson kept New Zealand in the game. But after the duo were dismissed after scoring their fifties, the tail tried to offer some resistance but failed.
