The first Test between Bangladesh and England at Chittagong saw an awful record being created for the visitors. England were dismantled for a score of 293 with debutant Mehedi Hasan Miraz accounting for six key wickets on his debut. It was some wily bowling from the Bangladeshi side to contain a star-studded line up for a low score. Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam also chipped in with couple of wickets each to bundle up England under 300. Moeen Aliu and Jonny Bairstow played some much needed knocks to bail the team out of crisis and helped England post a competitive total. There was some assistance for the spinners in the wicket and Bangladeshi bowlers did well to exploit it. FULL Cricket Scorecard: Bangladesh vs England 1st Test at Chittagong
England were bowled out for a score 293 in the first innings, which is also their lowest score against Bangladesh in Test cricket. Their previous lowest score was of 293 which came in the Dhaka Test back in October 2003. Bangladesh team is on a roll and have done well to script such a record.
Earlier, England skipper Alastair Cook, after winning the toss wouldn’t have hoped to see his team in such a poor state at the end of days play. England had opted for debutant Ben Duckett for their opening position along side Cook. The pair could not make any impact with the bat as Bangladesh spin due of Mehedi and Shakib turned the tables on them. Mehedi playing his first ever Test for Bangladesh spun past the visitors batting line-up to bamboozle their top and middle order. England only saving grace came in the form of Moeen Ali and Jonathan Bairstow, who cracked much needed half-centuries respectively to help their team stay in the game.
