England team began their tour of India with a seven-wicket defeat at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The visitors only managed to post a score of 132 on the board, and because of the quick 79-wun knock, India comfortably chased down the target, securing a 1-0 lead in the series.
England registered an unwanted record as they lost the match in just 12.5 overs. This 43-ball defeat by England is their heaviest T20I defeat in terms of balls remaining. The record before this defeat was against Australia in 2018.
Australia had defeated their rivals with 33 balls remaining. Before that, South Africa defeated England by 32 balls in 2016. Now, the record belongs to India, who chased the target of 133 in just 12.5 overs.
Jos Buttler was the single warrior for England, as he hit a half-century. The England captain scored 68 off 44 balls, including 2 sixes and 8 fours in his outing. Buttler was going with a good pace, but could not manage to get any support from the rest of his team.
