Joanna Lumley, one of the England’s famous actresses, is all set to ring the five-minute bell on Day 3 of the first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord’s. She would be followed by Dickie Bird and Mark Nicholas during this event. The event coincides with Gurkha Welfare Trust’s Earthquake Response Fund that too would be held around the ground, reports lords.org. Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill power New Zealand to 303/2
The bell-ringing occasion has now become a tradition at Lord’s in all Tests since 2007, which is situated at the pavilion, outside Bowler’s Bar. On the previous occasions, the bell has been rung by few great cricketers with the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Geoffrey Boycott and the late Richie Benaud. Lulmely would be one of the few no-cricketers to have rung the bell including Yohan Blake and Stephen Fry.
Lumley is famous as Patsy Stone in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’, a TV series. She has also appeared in other series and movies. She is also the brand ambassador of Gurkha Justice Campaign, which fights for the rights of Gurkha veterans, all over UK. Full Scorecard: England vs New Zealand, 1st Test, Day 2
“It’s a great pleasure to give the responsibility of ringing the five-minute bell to Joanna Lumley. She is one of our finest ever actresses and is fully deserving of the honour,” says Derek Brewer, chief executive of MCC.
“Her tireless campaigning for the Gurkhas is hugely commendable and we are pleased to organise a ground collection for the Gurkha Welfare Trust’s Earthquake Response Fund to coincide with her visit,” he added.
