England women retained the women’s Ashes as they Australia women by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 International in Hobart on January 29, 2014.
Captain Charlotte Edwards scored a fantastic unbeaten 92 off only 59 deliveries to help England reach their target of 151 in 17.5 overs.
Sarah Taylor gave her great company as the duo added 114 runs for the second wicket. Danielle Wyatt was the only batswoman dismissed for six.
Edwards struck 13 fours and one six in her innings and Taylor hit four fours. Left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen took the sole wicket of Wyatt.
Earlier, Australia posted a total of 150 for three in their 20 overs. Captain Meg Lanning top-scored with an unbeaten 78 off 54 deliveries. She struck nine fours and one six.
Alex Blackwell (21) and Ellyse Perry (29) made important contributions for Australia. Danielle Hazell and Wyatt took one wicket each.
Edwards was the Player of the Match.
England had won the sole Test in Perth while Australia won the three-match one-day series 2-1. The remaining two T20Is will be played in Melbourne and Sydney on January 31 and February 2 respectively.
