The Australian cricket team has been on the receiving end on the cricket pitch but also it has received a lot of flak from the English press for its dismal performance in the ongoing One-Day International (ODI) series in the Old Blighty.
One of the leading newspapers The Sun ran the headline – “GISSA GAME” mocking the visitors who lost the fourth tie and surrendering the five-match ODI series.
The newspaper continued, “Come on Aussies, please try to give us a game.”
“England clobbered the Cobbers once more yesterday and this series has turned into a complete mis-match.
“It is 3-0 with one match abandoned and all the talk about Australia’s resurgence following their Ashes defeat 18 months ago looks nothing more than hot air.”
Australia lost the fourth match at Chester-Le-Street by eight wickets, losing the five-match ODI series 3-0.
Former England captain Alec Stewart was quoted in Herald Sun as saying, “This summer may be one of the wettest on record and Australia are in danger of being washed away.
