Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali was left really impressed with the performance of young Indian pacer Mayank Yadav on his international debut and expressed hope that he may get to travel with the Indian team to Australia for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series.

The Men in Blue were boosted by debuts of Mayank and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and secured a dominant 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first of the three T20Is at Gwalior on Sunday.

Mayank first came into the spotlight after having a breakout IPL season with the Lucknow Super Giants. He may have only played 4 games in the season before getting injured, however he ended up taking 7 wickets and hit the 140-150 kmph speed consistently.

The 22-year-old finally made his much-awaited debut in Indian colours in Gwalior. In his quota of 4 overs, he took one wicket for 21 runs at an economy rate of 5.20. Mayank may have not been able to hit the 150 kph mark, but hit the 140 kmph mark consistently in 17 out of the 24 balls he bowled.

“It was a dream debut for Mayank Yadav. He started off with a maiden and even clocked 149.9 kmph. He has come from an injury, which is why his speeds have not been 157 or 158. Just imagine if he had been given the new ball instead of Hardik Pandya. He instilled fear. If you guys saw the match, batters did not play him on the front foot. I hope that he remains fit and goes to Australia,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

It will be interesting to see if Mayank will be selected for the much-awaited and highly-important Border-Gavaskar series over the likes of experienced pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
