Looks like Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) are in serious trouble with yet another massive blow. South African T20 skipper Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of IPL 2016 due to broken finger for 6 weeks. He went on to social media to express his injury mentioning, “And so my Ipl tournament unfortunately comes to and end.Broken finger and out for 6 weeks.Thanx India and @RPSupergiants it’s been fun.” He also thanked RPS for the journey so far. Du Plessis has garnered 206 runs from 6 matches played so far with two consecutive half-centuries. This is the second player to quit from RPS after Kevin Pietersen. Du Plessis last match in IPL 2016 was against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) where they won for the second time by 34-runs (DL method in the tournament with du Plessis contributing valuable 21-ball 30 including 3-fours and 2-sixes. As for Pietersen’s replacement, it has been slated to be given to T20 specialists Usman Khawaja. This will be his debut appearance in IPL. Although there is no confirmation on his inclusion in the squad, according to sources close to the franchise, it was no one but Khawaja who has been their option for Pietersen’s replacement.
Pietersen suffered an injury in his right calf during their IPL 2016 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and his injury was described as a ‘blessing in disguise’ by Dhoni, who hinted on Friday that with Pietersen sidelined, Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) have a chance to play all-rounders such as Albie Morkel or Mitchell Marsh in place of a proper batsman in Pietersen.
