Pakistan opening batter Fakhar Zaman is reportedly set to announce a shocking retirement from one-day cricket. According to a report by Samaa TV, Zaman is likely to announce his retirement from 50-over cricket after getting ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to an injury he sustained in Pakistan’s tournament opener against New Zealand.
Zaman, who has represented Pakistan in 86 ODIs, has discussed retirement plans with close associates in recent weeks.
“Champions Trophy will be my last ICC tournament. I want to take a break from ODI cricket,” Zaman said, as quoted by the report.
The report further stated that health problems have played a massive role in Zaman’s decision. The Pakistan batter continues to fight hyperthyroidism and has been advised by doctors to rest for two and a half months. Before the Champions Trophy, Zaman was absent from all forms of cricket for over 2 months due to health concerns.
The report added that Zaman is considering to relocate his family abroad, signaling potential broader changes in his professional life. He has one son whose name is Zain.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hasn’t yet issued an official statement regarding such reports of Zaman’s potential retirement from ODIs.
