FIR filed against BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary after court order

In his defence, Amitabh Choudhary to the court said that all allegations are baseless and do not hold any substance.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and courts all across India have been at loggerheads of late. Almost every BCCI office-bearer has been challenged after the implementation of Lodha Panel recommendations. Now in a new case, a FIR has been filed against the acting BCCI secretary, Amitabh Choudhary, who has been accused for misappropriation of funds of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) during his time is President. Ujjal Das, a former Ranji Trophy player from the state, and JSCA life member Naresh Makani, filed the complaint.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, G K Tiwari, ordered Bistupur police station chief to register a FIR against Choudhary and others mentioned in the complaint. Das, in his complaint, stated that high-ranked officials pocketed BCCI allotted funds that were to be used for the promotion of the game and build a new stadium in Ranchi. Other eminent members in the FIR are former secretary Rajesh Verma, former treasurer Govinda Mukherjee, and Ranjit Kumar Singh, a member of the state cricket body. The FIR was filed on July 24. In his defence, Choudhary to the court said that all allegations are baseless and do not hold any substance, as people of Jharkand know him and appreciate the work he has done. As per Times of India, Choudhary said, “All these allegations are rubbish and have no basis.” The funds allocated to the JSCA have been said to be around INR 196.23 crore.
