Brett Matthews, a former First-Class cricketer of South Africa and brother of Craig passed away on Thursday, almost a month after a car accident that resulted in physical complications.
Matthews played 38 First-Class matches for Eastern Province, Transvaal and Western Province picking up 120 wickets in a short career of six years from 1984-1990.
Former South African cricketer Pat Symcox paid tribute to Matthews on Twitter.
“So sad to hear that Brett Matthews,former cricketer has passed away after a car accident some time ago.RIP” Symcox wrote on his Twitter page.
Cricket south Africa’s acting CEO Jacques Faul also expressed sadness over the death of Matthews.
“This is a tragedy in the proper sense of the word. On behalf of the South African cricket family I extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends on their loss in this very difficult time,” Faul said.
