Former England cricketer and celebrated commentator Robin Jackman has been diagnosed with cancer and will undergo seven weeks of treatment.
Jackman has already had two operations to remove malignant tumours from his vocal cords. The 67-year-old has been advised four weeks’ rest and is expected to return to commentary early next year.
“It’s not the prettiest, but I got it early and I’m confident I’ll be fine. I won’t be in Australia [for South Africa’s upcoming Test series], but I sure will be rooting for the Proteas,” Jackman was quoted as saying by Supersport.
Jackman’s diagnosis has come after two more former cricketers Martin Crowe and Tony Greig were diagnosed with the disease recently.
Yuvraj Singh was also diagnosed with cancer and had successfully undergone treatment for the rare germ-cell disease.
Jackman had played four Tests and 15 ODIs for England.
Born in India and brought up in England, Jackman maintained close ties with South Africa.
