Former New Zealand skipper Martin Crowe was on Monday diagnosed with lymphoma, an invasive cancer of the immune system, according to reports.

Crowe s manager Louise Henderson said the 50-year-old New Zealand great has requested for privacy after recently discovering about the disease, as he and his family deal with the news, the Associated Press reported.

Henderson said “the family have a number of issues to confront over the next couple of weeks. The diagnosis is very new, the family is still in shock and obviously dealing with the understanding that life as they know it for the unforeseeable future is different.”

Crowe played 77 Test matches and 143 One-Day Internationals for the Kiwis from 1982 to 1995.

He is married to former Miss Universe Lorraine Downes.

Crowe garnered 5,400 runs in Test cricket at an average of 45, which includes 17 centuries.
