Former Pakistan Test captain Aamir Sohail has turned politician after announcing his decision to join the Pakistan Muslim League.

Former Pakistan Test captain Aamir Sohail has turned politician after announcing his decision to join the Pakistan Muslim League.
Sohail announced his decision to join the Nawaz Sharif group, country’s main opposition party, after meeting the party leader here.
“I have decided to come into politics and join PML (N) because I want to do something for sports and sportsmen as a former player and captain,” said the left-handed opener.
Sohail, who is now a well known commentator and expert, is not the first Pakistani cricketer to become a politician.
He follows in the footsteps of his former captain, Imran Khan and former test pacer, Sarfaraz Nawaz.
Imran, who won the 1992 World Cup for Pakistan, is now a leading opposition figure and leads his own Tehreek-e-Insaaf party while Nawaz has joined the Mutthaida Qaumi Movement.
Sohail, in his meeting with Sharif, discussed the issues pertaining to sports and sportsmen and felt by being in politics he could contribute a lot in this field.
Sohail, 44, played 47 Tests and 156 one-day internationals taking part in two World Cups in 1992 and 1996. (PTI)
