Former Vidarbha captain Vijay Telang has passed away aged 61, following a brief illness.

Telang, who died on Tuesday, played First-Class cricket between 1970-86, scored 2724 runs in 50 games and also took seven wickets.

In April 2012, Telang took over as coach of the Vidarbha Ranji side, after having coached the Under-16 and Under-19 teams for Vidarbha.

However, barely four and half months after he took over the reigns of Vidarbha team, the former selector resigned from the coach’s post citing health reasons.

Telang’s highest score in First-Class cricket is 155 and finished his career with an average of just under 30.
