The Gabba Cricket Ground in Brisbane which presently has a seating capacity of 42,000 is set for a dramatic makeover to become one of the finest grounds across the globe. It will be given a facelift and modernised as per a 20-year ‘master plan’. Grounds like Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) have already witnessed significant improvements in the past couple of years. A colossal high-tech and industrial  enhancement is taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) too. A week back, Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) declared that WACA Ground will be turned into a boutique venue and Perth Stadium will be the venue for all important matches post 2018. In a conversation with Cricket Australia’s official website, Cricket Australia’s executive general manager of team performance Pat Howard said, “Competition between venues had increased and the Gabba must match the pace. There has been growth in the stadiums around the country. Making sure that Brisbane and Queensland stay competitive in this space is pretty important. I think there is a lot of opportunity to deal with it. Not just inside the ground, but outside the ground, the precinct, the accessibility … [it needs to be] a good stadium comparable with all the other ones around Australia. I know those at the Gabba are well and truly across all of those [possibilities] but how they get them going and in what timeframe is obviously always going to be a challenge.” READ: MS Dhoni unconcerned with India’s poor record at The Gabba
