Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Gagan Narang for winning India’s first medal at the 2012 London Olympics on Monday. Narang won Bronze medal for 10m Air Rifle with score of 701.1.
“Gagan Narang, you make us proud by winning the first medal in Olympics 2012. Let’s hope & pray that we follow it up by achieving many more,” Tendulkar tweeted.
He was few points behind silver medallist who scored 701.5, while the gold medallist was at 702.1.
Narang has won four gold medals each in 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. Narang’s primary event is 10m Air Rifle & secondary events are Men’s 50m Rifle Prone & Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions. 10m Air Rifle Individual He has won gold in 10m Air Rifle (Pairs), 50m Rifle 3 Positions Individual and 50m Rifle 3 Positions.
India cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh also wished the ace shooter, who bagged the first medal for the country.
“Congratulations to Gagan on winning the medal and making all the INDIANS proud.many more to come,” Dhoni wrote on his Twitter page.
Yuvraj wrote, “Loud cheer for Gagan Narang for bringin India 1st medal Huge moment finaly at the podium Hard luck Bindra U r still a champ.”
“INDIA’S First #olympic2012 medal……WELL DONE Gagan Narang !!! #proud” said Zaheer Khan.
Indian sports minister Ajay Maken also was among the first ones to wish Narang.
He wrote, “One medal by Gagan has totally changed the mood of the contingent! Everyone is so ecstatic and Motivated!”
Haryana government announced prize of Rs 1 crore for Narang. Chief Minister Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Narang in the past has won several medals for the state and the country.
