The Rajasthan Cricket Association has roped in former India coach, Gary Kirsten for a fifteen-day camp that will be held from September 5 at the RCA academy in Jaipur. According to sources it was Lalit Modi’s idea to call in Kirsten to work with the Rajasthan Ranji team. “It was Modi’s idea to bring Kirsten for a short camp before the start of a tight domestic season. He will have a short 15-days camp with our Ranji Trophy team. He has been the best coach for the Indian team and we all know what he brings with him. He understands Indian players and its culture very well. Having his expertise will certainly be a great boost for our team,” a RCA official said as quoted by Indian Express. The RCA has come up with a few innovative ideas in the recent times. They even tried a T10 tournament with a yellow ball. It was earlier also reported that Modi was planning to launch an IPL-style T20 tournament in Rajasthan, while bringing in international players as well.
Meanwhile, Pankaj Singh, one of the Indian pacers from Rajasthan, feels Kirsten’s advice will be really helpful for his team-mates. He was also part of the team under Kirsten that toured Zimbabwe. “We have been hearing that Kirsten will be coming and having camp with us. I was under him for brief time and he has a great understanding of the game. He gives space to each player. He has done wonders for Indian team and even my friends who are in the Indian team raved about his work,” he said.
He added, “A 15-day camp might not bring lot changes to our team but it will help players to pick up small points which will help them in future. It’s up to us, the players of RCA how much they learn from Kirsten. His experience and his cricketing skills will certainly come as big boost for all of us especially when we are going ahead for long domestic season.”
India won the World Cup after 28 years in 2011, under Kirsten’s tenure as coach.
