Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir is believed to be ready to play for encounter against Somerset on Sunday. Gambhir who decided to take rest during the qualifiers is believed to have an extended net session on Saturday.

Coach of KKR, Dav Whatmore though said the decision to play will solely lie on Gambhir himself. He said, “It is up to him to decide on playing. We don’t want to put any pressure on him. He looks fit and is hitting the ball well. If he decides to play, he will lead the side.”

Whatmore added that his team’s objectives to be one of the top teams in the Champions League and they will have to improve their performance after their defeat against Somerset in qualification round.

“We should have won the match. We did have our chances but didn’t play smart cricket. Our first objective was to top the group but if that failed we wanted to make sure that we made it to the main tournament,” he said. With that objective achieved, Whatmore is eyeing greater glory: “Our aim is to be among the top two in the group,” said Whatmore.

Earlier Somerset defeated KKR in the qualification round despite the absence of international cricketers like Jos Butler and Craig Kieswetter.
