Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and others tweet on India’s 500th Test

India's Test captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first against New Zealand in the historic 500th Test.

Today is an historic moment in India’s cricketing history as they play their 500th Test. It might even go down as one of the most iconic Tests to be played. India are competing against New Zealand, in the first of a three-match Test series at Green Park, Kanpur and many current and former Indian cricketers have also came out forward to celebrate the historic occasion on Twitter. It has been a long journey for India to reach this landmark and it all started in 1932, when they played their first ever Test and then the Indian team was led by CK Nayudu.

India was not expected to win that game but a few cricketers did manage to impress. Since then, the Indian Test side never looked back, although there were few ups and downs for the team, but they kept rising to challenges and can be called a strong opponent in the international circuit. So far, 285 players have represented the Indian Test side and for every cricketer, whether still playing or not, it is a proud moment, to cherish being part of a prestigious journey.

The first Test of this series marks India’s 500th Test and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, who is known for his witty tweets expressed his desire that India should score above 500 and win the game to make it a memorable one.

Apart from him, many other cricketers tweeted about this historic game (500th Test) while Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first after wining the toss.
