The important and bigger the occasion, the calm and composed he becomes is how Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer has described his 41-ball-87- that took the upper hand from the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier-2 clash of the Indian Premier League 2025 on June 1st.

Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title last year, and played one of his greatest knocks this time for Punjab King under a highly-intense situation in a knockout game.

Asked about his secret, Iyer said: “I don’t know to be honest, I love such big occasions. I always say to myself and to my colleagues in the team that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are, you get the big results.”

Shreyas spoke about how he focused more on his breathing (to keep his cool) rather than sweating out on the pitch. He spoke about how the players need to show intent from the very beginning and that even he had to take some time before he could open his bat.

Today was a right example where I was focusing more on my breathing rather than sweating out there. All players need to be assertive and show that intent from ball one. The intent was stupendous and even for me, I had to take some time,” he added.

From the other end, the batsmen were striking pretty well. I know the more time I spend on the field, the better I get and my vision also gets better,” he said.
