‘Giving back to state…’: Former India star on Virat Kohli ad Rohit Sharma returning to Ranji Trophy

India’s batting stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are going to make their much-awaited comeback in Ranji Trophy. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will make his return to domestic cricket as he will play for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir.
The match is set to begin January 23 at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit confirmed his availability for the match in the press conference where India’s Champions Trophy squad was announced.
Former India’s star batter Mohammed Kaif has commented that the return of these players to domestic cricket. The BCCI has made participation of players in Ranji Trophy mandatory for all centrally contracted players. Kaif has stated that it is great news that well-known players like Kohli and Rohit will return to Ranji Trophy. He believes that their participation will not only make the quality of the tournament much better, but will also inspire cricketers across the country.
“Great news that stars like Virat and Rohit will be playing Ranji Trophy. Giving back to state that supported them when no one knew them and spending time with youngster is what keeps the system going,” Kaif wrote on X.

The Indian skipper accepted that he has not actively participated in domestic cricket for a long period of time. He blames his absence from domestic cricket to the demanding schedule of international cricket in the past 6-7 ears.

His teammate, India’s star batter Virat Kohli also confirmed himself participating in Ranji Trophy, as he will represent Delhi against Railways on January 30. He is going to miss the initial match against Saurashtra due to neck injury. It has been reported that Kohli informed DDCA that he will be available to participate in the next round of Ranji Trophy match for Delhi.
