Glamorgan cricketer Ben Wright has announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 27 to pursue a career in business. The right-handed batsman, who has represented England at the Under-19 level will retire at the end of the season. “After giving it a huge amount of consideration over the last couple of months, I have decided to retire at the end of the season and take up an offer of employment from Press Metal UK,” said Wright, who has scored 3,684 First-Class runs his side, which include a total of six centuries to his name. “It has not been an easy decision, but I’m very excited to be starting a fresh challenge. “I would like to thank everybody at Glamorgan CCC for all of the support I have received over the past 10 years at the club, it has been a privilege to wear the Daff. I would also like to thank my family and everybody else who has been involved in my career, including players, coaches, medical and support staff as well as the PCA,” Wright said, according to southwales-eveningpost.co.uk. Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris said: “Ben has been a true professional and will be missed both in the dressing room and with his skills on the field. I am delighted he has found an opportunity outside of the game to secure his long-term future.”
