England lifted the gloom after their crushing ODI series defeat against India by registering a six-wicket win over the hosts in the one-off Twenty20 match on Saturday and the English skipper Graeme Swann said the victory couldn’t have come at a better time.
“We are very pleasantly surprised. After five heavy defeats you want to take something from the tour. Even though it’s just one Twenty20 game that we won, it could not have come at a better time. It’s really pleasing to take some sheen off India’s 5-0 ODI series win,” said Swann at the post-match press conference.
Captaining the Twenty20 side in the absence of injured Stuart Board, Swann praised his seamers for the good work and said Steven Finn was outstanding.
“I think the seam bowlers have been exceptional. Steven Finn has been outstanding.”
He further said the youngsters in the team would learn a lot from this win as it would give them confidence ahead of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka next year.
“Yes, the young guys will learn a lot from this victory,” the stand-in skipper said.
Addressing reports alongside Man of the match Kevin Pietersen, Swann further said he did not have any issues with the English batsman despite his comments in his autobiography.
“I spoke at length about this yesterday. The relationship with Kevin has unchanged. It has not affected the dressing room at all.” (PTI)
